Educational

My degree was earned at Cambridge.  The study comprised 2 years in maths and one year in Operations Research and Statistics. I also studied for a PGCE in Reading, specialising in the junior age group.  I learned a lot about myself and organising my time and effort, and learned to appreciate the qualities a good teacher has.  A real turning point in my life.  Did I pass?  Very nearly!

Material resources and subscriptions

I do all my work on a portable disk via a laptop.  This means that it is backed up at all times and I can bring the complete development onto site at the drop of a hat.

I work in a real office away from domestic distractions

I use an excellent Internet hosting service

I subscribe to a Web based demonstration service (ask me!)

Personal

The ability to learn from life's feedback.  This skill has been developed through the Life Training Programme which I can heartily recommend to everyone.  Benefits applicable to my work include improved planning, disciplined approach, appreciating feedback, learning from all outcomes, respectful partnerships and identifying the purpose in each activity.

People keeping me sharp

My partner Liz and children Sam, Jack and Annie remind me to be business-like.  Mick and Chaz, old school friends, ensure I have a good perspective on any problems.  Eric inspires me with his honesty in business.  Malcolm, who I've known since University days, now works with me when I need to get unstuck.  Hamish from Business Link showed me a much better path for my business, and introduced me to Stephen Covey's book.  Guy, Letitia and the others at the Power of Purpose group encourage me to identify and conquer any unhelpful attitudes.  Dr Peter Tanner, former director of BTG Plc, keeps my feet on the ground without diminishing my enthusiasm.
