WHO?
The backbone
of CDP is currently James Towell. I manage, design and code. When
you phone, you'll get me every time. I also have a number of people I regularly
work with, whom I list in my related services page.
WHAT?
Generally the work I undertake is in the form of a project centred around
database development. Database investigations, third party implementations
and other data related tasks are also welcomed. The scale of operations runs
from single day tasks of a few hundred pounds to full development projects typically
costing between £4,000 and £12,000.
"Caversham
Data Projects delivered a final product that was second to none and went that extra
mile to ensure it was a success. Their approach to design and development
made the whole process that much easier to understand and manage – many thanks!"

HOW?
Technical skills are Access and VBA, Microsoft's Office suite, SQL Server, MapPoint
and VB.NET . I use Prince 2 for project management and can scale
it so that the overheads are minimal but the benefits of a successful project are
still realised. CDP has a full set of software tools for this and space
on servers for collaborative work. Last but by no means least, I attend to
the human side of a project. In particular I look for where perception parts company from reality
and seek out "wishful thinking" which can be found in spades in IT projects.
See the skills page and the values page for more details.
WHEN?
Continuous service as CDP Ltd since 1996, with technological development
experience dating from 1983.
WHY?
Contributing to the wider world
is very fulfilling, and stretching myself to contribute ever more
effectively is an excellent way of getting a great deal out of life.
I also continue to meet interesting people and find from them endless new
perspectives.
WHERE?
I have an office five minutes from home, in the grounds of Reading University and overlooking some lovely woodland.
